Content

Based on the Italian literary work Cuore (Heart) as the starting point, and then according to Aristotle's "six major dramatic elements", namely character, plot, theme, diction, spectacle and music, the content of the work is performed in the form of Drama.  The instructor will guide the students to use their imagination to integrate Cuore (Heart) into the school curriculum and adapt it into a drama, transforming people and things that originally existed in books and articles into vivid stage characters and stories.

According to the concept "From Page to Stage" believed by Prospects Theatre, the finale stage production is essential.  Students could experience the charisma of theatre and learn about team spirit, which are beneficial to the development of the youth.  Participating students in this programme will get three performance opportunities: in-school, for the community and at the joint school finale performance.

Phase 1:
In-school Demonstration Performance (1 performance)

September 2023

Prospects Theatre will conduct an introductory performance at participating schools to arouse students' interest in drama and the project.  This will also include an overview of the project highlights and interactive theatre games, etc.

Phase 2:
Drama Workshop (30 sessions)

September 2023
to
July 2024

A series of drama training on theatre knowledge, such as actor's training, text studying, script analysis, script writing, rehearsals and stage aesthetics, would be provided by the professional drama instructors from Prospects Theatre.  In addition to the six elements of play, students will also learn about the traditional linear structure of theatre, namely exposition, complication, reversal and denouncement; as well as the techniques of conflicts, suspense, discovery, surprise and satisfaction.

For Secondary and Primary Schools
Taking Cuore (Heart) as the longitude, taking the texts in the curriculum of the Education Bureau as the latitude, using drama as the medium, and with the joint participation of drama instructors, school teachers and students, it is expected to achieve a subtle and enlightening effect.

The background of Cuore (Heart) is set in Italy.  It mainly records the ten-month diary of an Italian fourth-grade elementary school student from October 1881 to July of the following year.  The content includes the little boy's school and family life.  In addition, there are also exhortation and inspirational articles written by his parents in his diary, and one monthly (except the last month), a total of nine "monthly story" read by the teacher in class.  The book consists of one hundred articles, sorted by date, divided into sections by month.

The book Cuore (Heart) mainly conveys emotional education, including the love of parents and children, the love of teachers and friends, noble personality and patriotism.  Among them, passages such as "Young Copyist" and "Looking for Mother in Three Thousand Miles" are particularly well-known.

For Special Schools
As students of special schools have different abilities, drama instructors from the arts group would discuss with the school the teaching plan that tailor-made for the students.  Scripts could be selected from the reference articles, or be extracted from actual life experiences among students.  Details of everyday life such as the process of learning, reading signs, having conversations, answering phone calls, writing memo, etc, could be adopted into the play.  These would make it easier for students to grasp the concepts and facilitate their acting.
