Programme 1: Delicate Dyeing: Exploring Textile Production and Fabric Dyeing Techniques

Textiles are closely related to our daily lives.  Have you wondered how textile products are made?  And what can we do when they are damaged?  In this programme, our conservators will answer these questions and walk students through cases of textile conservation to explore the process of textile production and restoration.  Under our guidance, students will have the opportunity to experience wax resist-dyeing or creating a textile bookmark.

Programme 2: Exploring Paints on Artefacts

Paints are used on many artefacts such as paintings, sculptures, works on paper and mixed media, which can give rise to specific conservation problems.  In this workshop, the conservators will introduce the various types of paints, their common problems and their preservation measures and treatment methods, enabling students to gain a better understanding of heritage conservation.  In addition, the students will experience preparing and painting with egg tempera, a classical medium used in Western paintings.
