Let's Cines

Film is not only a kind of entertainment but also a form of art.  The Hong Kong Film Archive has selected ten films which are especially appropriate for students, including engaging and inspiring local animations, feature films that reflect the pulse of the times, and film adaptations of literary classics that align with the new senior secondary Chinese Language curriculum.  Post-screening talks conducted by well-known film critics will further enable students to understand the unique position that film holds in our history and culture.

Alfonso Wong Chak began the Old Master Q comic strip series in 1962.  Since then, Old Master Q has not only become a favourite among primary and secondary school students, but also Hong Kong cultural icon frequently adapted into film and animationThis film, the third in the animation series, was inspired by Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982).  To acquire Mr Chiu's amusement park, an evil property magnate employs all sorts of despicable means, including planting a bomb there.  By chance, Old Master Q encounters and befriends an alien while working in the park.  With the alien's assistance, Old Master Q joins forces with his buddies, Mr Chin and Big Potato, to save the day by retrieving the bomb and punishing the villain.  Although the film was made four decades ago, its theme of property hegemony feels more relevant than ever.
